Hankido
Hankido is a relatively new Hapkido style, developped by late kuksanim Myung Jae-nam. Kuksanim studied traditional Hapkido from which he gave birth to this new art. Traditional Hapkido consists of over 3000 techniques, but Myung's students asked for more. Something that could be an eternal subject for their martial arts study.

in actionKuksanim started the development of what we now know as Hankido in the late sixties. This new Hapkido style can be recognized by its elegant, circular movements which the Hankido practioner uses to get in control of his/hers opponent.
The first foreign country where kuksanim thaughed Hankido was Holland. In 1989 he visited our country together with master Ko Back Yong, this visit led to a very strong relationship between the IHF and the NHF.

Techniques
Hankido consists of twelve basic selfdefence techniques (ho shin ki) which are connected to 24 breathing techniques. Twelve for the defender called Hwan Sang Do Bup and twelve for the attacker called Ho Shin Ba't Ki (also refered to as Cheon Gi Bup (heavenly techniques) and Ji Gi Bup (earthly techniques)).
Of course there is more to Hankido then just these 24 circle techniques, but these form the stable basis for every hankido practioner. It's beter to train one technique a thousand times, then practicing a thousand techniques only once.

Recognition
Hankido is recognized as a true Korean martial art by the Korean Ministry of Culture.
